PrisonerOfW.Com Updated (and shirts now available)
Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 09:05:56 PM PDT
OK, I promise to stop pimping this so much (at least for awhile), but I just wanted to say that I've improved the site by embedding the key quotes from the articles/transcripts in question.
I've also made the text and links larger and easier to navigate (all links now open in a new window).
I've added a few more examples of McCain's POW-Wow obsession, including his bizarre speech yesterday.
I've highlighted 4 key links which should FINALLY get through to ANY remaining PUMA types.
And finally, due to popular demand, I've "flip-flopped" and gone ahead and turned the T-shirt into a real product!
Keep submitting more examples via the form on the site as you find them!
(note: FYI, the site has already received over 11,000 visitors in 48 hours of existence! Not bad!)
STEAL THESE GRAPHICS: A few quickies to use!
Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 09:47:19 PM PDT
Below the fold, I've slapped together a few quickies covering some of the great lines from tonight (plus, of course, a couple of other goodies).
Feel free to use, share, whatever...I didn't write the lines, I didn't take that godawful photo of McCain, so it's not really my work to own:
UPDATED x2: PrisonerOfW.com: it's a hit!!
Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 01:22:06 PM PDT
OK, I shouldn't be shocked by this, as I've been pimping the link furiously since early this morning, but I'm still pleasantly surprised to see that Prisoner of W. has already been StumbledUpon, HuffingtonPosted (well, in the comments anyway) and even FARKed!
Of course, I take no credit for anything other than compiling the site itself; someone else took the infamous "hug" photo. Someone else (chicago jeff, as far as I know) came up with the "Prisoner of W." tagline. Someone else came up with the "Get out of Gaffe Free!" Monopoly card. And yes, someone else came up with the newest addition, now featured at the bottom of the site:
POW! McCain does it AGAIN...on the Tonight Show!

Un-be-fucking-lievable.
On Leno, McCain Invokes POW History When Asked About House Controversy
"Could I just mention to you, Jay, that, at a moment of seriousness. I spent five-and-a-half years in a prison cell," McCain said. "I didn't have a house. I didn't have a kitchen table. I didn't have a table. I didn't have a chair. And I didn't spend those five-and-a-half years because, not because I wanted to get a house when I got out."
Sounds like this is the perfect opportunity to invite y'all to check out a new quickie little website that I've thrown together:
http://www.prisonerofw.com

I've listed and linked to most of the best-known examples already, but please feel free to fill out the form with additional examples of either a) McCain or his spokespeople playing the POW card, or b) other historical incidences of McCain's asshattery that he'd probably play the POW card to excuse.

Biden: Giving up power for the good of the country. (Updated w/a video tribute to Delaware!)
Sat Aug 23, 2008 at 10:14:22 PM PDT
I know this isn't terribly profound and I"m sure others have noted it already, but it just occurred to me: Joe Biden is currently the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He is also 65 years old.
Assuming Obama wins the Presidency, as of January, Biden will no longer be the Chair of one of the most powerful Senatorial committees--he'll be on Heads of State Funeral Duty and Break-a-Tie Patrol for the next 4-8 years. Unlike Cheney, Biden's boss really will be in charge, not a puppet, so he won't have the satisfaction of secretly controlling things from behind the scenes.
In addition, if Obama serves 2 terms, by 2017, Biden will be 73 years old--and not too likely to try a 3rd run at the Presidency.
UPDATE x2: PUMA nuts throwing a temper tantrum over Biden
Sat Aug 23, 2008 at 02:47:18 PM PDT
In spite of the current front-page diary by smintheus, it appears that some of the die-hard Hillary folk are, indeed whining about the choice of Biden:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...
A top Clinton advisor also told CNN they were "outraged," over how the process was conducted.
"You can't put Eric Holder and Carolyn Kennedy on an hour plane ride to Chappaqua just to check the box? They should have done it just for the optics," this person said....
"They thought her supporters were mad before? They are really mad now," this person also said. We knew it was never going to happen but you would have thought they might at least make a show of it."
UPDATE: Yup, McCain even used the POW line during Keating scandal!!
Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 12:22:28 PM PDT
...at least, according to the Rude Pundit:
McCain's been playing that Hanoi Hilton card any time he gets into trouble. Back in the bad old days of the Keating Five, the scandal that dare not be mentioned until the Obama campaign sees the whites of McCain's eyes, McCain and his friends tossed it out there like a pocket ace. According to the Washington Post on November 21, 1990, McCain told Keating he "had not spent 5 1/2 years in a [North Vietnamese] prisoner of war camp to have his courage or integrity questioned," although the logical connection there seems amiss. Earlier, calling on a Senate ethics panel to quickly issue a decision involving McCain's case, supporter Bob Dole said, "He has been held hostage before under very difficult circumstances. So let us not keep him hostage here in the Senate," according to the New York Times on October 23, 1990.

YouTube clips from the Faith Forum
Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 08:00:48 PM PDT
Unfortunately, I was unable to catch the faith forum this evening. However, thanks to the wonder that is YouTube, there are already some key clips available.
Here's a good place to start:

EXCLUSIVE: John McCain tech support call caught on video??
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 11:01:54 AM PDT
OK, I don't have any evidence that John Mayer is, in fact, John McCain's secret love child. I also don't have any evidence that McCain is the voice on the other end of the phone conversation taped below.
Then again, in true Fox News fashion, I don't have any evidence that he isn't, either.
Below the fold, I present what may very well be John McCain's very first computer tech support phone conversation with his secret love child, guitarist John Mayer:
UPDATED: SiteMeter/IE Issue Supposedly Fixed.
Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 07:17:06 AM PDT
Fortunately, this doesn't include DailyKos (which does use SiteMeter, but which, fortunately, appears to be on one of the servers that isn't down), but literally thousands of websites have been failing to load using Internet Explorer for the past day and a half!
As a Mac user (Safari/Camino), I was tipped off about this by Crooks & Liars and Atrios. I quickly checked my own SiteMeter-enabled websites using IE on Windows and sure enough, 6 out of 7 of them crapped out--they either don't load at all or only load the header banner, etc. Either way, an "Internet Explorer cannot load this website" error message pops up, leading to a "page cannot be displayed" error.
Holy Crap. Teaser Trailer for Oliver Stone's "W" now online.
Sun Jul 27, 2008 at 06:41:59 PM PDT
I realize this may be violating the "diary vs. comment" rule, but it seemed to be a special case. I'll beef the diary up with my own initial thoughts a little later (I have something to take care of for an hour or so), but wanted to at least get this out there.
I can't decide whether to be completely geeked, utterly mortified, or both yet.
Video below the fold.
Electric Cars: Where will you plug them in?
Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 06:23:56 AM PDT
At $4+ a gallon, and with advances in technology, electric cars are finally about to hit the mainstream in the U.S. Just about all of the articles I've read about them so far have focused on the big issues with the cars themselves--how far they can go on a single charge, how much they'll cost, what sort of performance they'll have, etc. Today's Chicago Tribune has an interesting story which goes into the other questions as well, primarily the infrastructure necessary to support electric cars on a wide scale:

What's the Worst Movie You've Ever Seen?
Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 09:01:03 PM PDT
OK, I couldn't make it to NN this year, and wanted to cheer myself up, so I dug up an old email that I sent out to family & friends several years ago, consisting of a collection of review snippets for the horrible remake of "Rollerball" made in 2002.
Below the fold is the list of quotes, courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes.
Suffice it to say that it was, by most accounts, a pretty bad movie.
In the comments, feel free to post your own stories about the Worst Movie you've ever seen. The rules: First, no outright porn. Second, since there are so many utter-crap straight-to-video "sequels", it has to have had at least a brief theatrical run before going to video.
Why I just donated money to a Republican.
Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 10:28:39 AM PDT
Before I start: Anyone who questions my progressive/Democratic credentials, feel free to check out my history here at dKos.
No, I don't plan on supporting him in the general election, and no, I'm not trying to "game the system" by propping up the "weaker" GOP candidate, etc. So why did I just donate $25 to a self-declared conservative Republican running against an incumbent Democratic county commissioner?
Well, first of all, because he's my cousin (and a generally nice guy on non-political issues) and I've been feeling extremely guilty about the situation. For $25, I've essentially bought myself freedom from awkward family conversations through the election.
